Thanks to MATRIX for the F3 demo

I had the opportunity to get my hands on the new Sony F3 this afternoon at a demo sponsored and hosted by MATRIX and Sony.  I just wanted to say a hardy thanks to everyone for putting on the event.

The camera is a nice hybrid of the successful EX-1 and 3 cameras ease of use and design layout with a new larger (super 35) sized chip and PL mount capabilities that brings the camera into the same league as RED.  This is they type of camera I’ve been hoping Sony would produce since working with the EX-3 and being impressed with the image quality.

I fear people call this camera a “game changer”.  I think that would be going too far.  This camera puts another high quality, reasonably priced cinema style camera into a filmmaker’s hands, and is a direct competitor with the RED camera, but it is not blazing new trails.  This doesn’t mean that it isn’t welcome (it certainly is).  I would expect this camera to make a significant impact in the very near future.
